Science provides the foundations for understanding our world. Through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics, Science has changed our lives and is vital to our world’s future prosperity. All students should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of knowledge and concepts, students should be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena.

Biology is the study of life itself and with recent pioneering developments in genetics, stem cell research and biotechnology, it is an exciting time to study this dynamic science. Chemistry is involved in everything around us, from food to plastics, and from oil to drugs. As a department, we aim to stimulate a lasting interest and excitement in chemistry. Physics is the scientific study of the natural world at all scales, ranging from subatomic particles to super-clusters of galaxies. It is a fascinating and rewarding subject for those prepared to accept its intellectual challenge.

With Sports Science we aim to inspire students to become physically confident in ways which allows them to gain the skills needed to adopt and maintain a healthy active lifestyle. We provide opportunities to build character and embed values such as fairness and respect which is paramount for success. With Physical Education we aim to inspire students to become physically confident in ways which allows them to gain the skills needed to adopt and maintain a healthy active lifestyle.
